The return of Choose Life???

It's 2011 and Choose Life is still off air. But it seems everyday I have new ideas for programs so it's only a matter of time.
I'm considering a weekend timeslot now so I'll have no excuses for not doing my hour of volunteering...
Unfortunately I have been so busy with off air activities that the on air stuff has been on hold for quite some time.
But the music library is looking really, really nice in RoxFm now so I'm happy with that.
There are even SOME 80's cd's on the shelves so the "future is bright" for 80's music in our community station. :)
My first show back when it does happen will be a tribute to Yahoo Serious, so definitely keep your ear to the ground for the return of Choose Life.

Yes, Choose Life IS still on air...

Well it's been a while since I have put any song listings up here....but be reassured the show still goes on.

I am on a mission now to find a copy of the song Computer One by Dear Enemy that I can play on air.
So far I have had no luck.
My quest continues......

Speaking to a friend reminded me of music I listened to constantly in the 80's. I have Madness albums on cd, but not 2 songs: Shut Up and Night boat to Cairo.
The first time I heard Shut Up after all these years, I was amazed to hear the song words spilling out of my mouth unconsciously. How bizarre, I sang that song every night while walking to the deli to play pinball. How crazy is it to still have that in my head? And no wonder I took up piano!!

Back after the holidays...

from 23rd of July 2008

Break in the weather - Jenny Morris
Just an illusion - Imagination

Art of Noise, Back to the Future and Revenge of the Nerds.

4th June

Wham Rap - Wham
Twist a St. Tropez - Telex
The Power of Love - Huey Lewis and the News
Paranomia - The Art of Noise
Theme from S-Express - S-Express
When you were mine - Cyndi Lauper
Alive and Kicking - Simple Minds
Burning down the house - Talking Heads
Nerds concert song - Revenge of the Nerds
Valotte - Julian Lennon

This week the Hollywood set of "Back to the Future" burnt down in a big fire at the Universal Studios. I played a song from the soundtrack of the movie in tribute.
I followed my nose pretty much this week with no clear plan. Once I started on 80's movies, I found myself amongst Revenge of the Nerds. Strange.

Covers - Bananarama, After the Fire, Toni Basil and Cyndi Lauper.

28th May

Der Kommissar - After the Fire
Bette Davis Eyes - Kim Carnes
Pink Cadillac - Natalie Cole
Born to Run - Frankie goes to Hollywood
Mickey - Toni Basil
All through the night - Cyndi Lauper
China Girl - David Bowie
Long Train Running - Bananarama
Jackie Wilson said - Dexy's Midnight Runners
You better run - Pat Benatar
You keep me hanging on - Kim Wilde
The Tide is high - Blondie

A show full of cover songs. Songs that were covered in the 80's that is.
Some were obvious and some not and some I knew about but had never heard before and thought I should have. And some I wish that I hadn't ever heard. Bruce Springsteen should NOT be covered, it doesn't matter how good you are!

I first heard that Bananarama had covered Long Train Running last year. I was looking for the lyrics for the community band. I found it recently to play on air. It's not the Doobie Brothers thats for sure, but it isn't unbearable.

Some ska, some pop, some fun!

21st May

Once in a Lifetime - Talking Heads
Start - The Jam
One in ten - UB40
My ever changing moods - The Style Council
Mother's Talk - Tears for Fears
Missionary Man - Eurythmics
Who's that girl - Eurythmics
You should hear how she talks about you - Melissa Manchester
Rhythm is gonna get you - Gloria Estefan
Only Lonely - The Divinyls
Hey Little Boy -The Divinyls
Sweet Insomnia - Faithless vs Eurythmics

I don't even remember how I came up with this list of music, it was so late at night and I was surfing the net for inspiration. My collection of 80's music had gaps and I've found some of the music to fit into it.
Much of the music in this show hasn't been played on Choose Life before. I love variety!

Thinking quick and running out of time!

Sometimes a week goes by too quickly. Time for research was short. Time for planning even shorter. This is the show that I ended up with, for no particular reason.

Stand and deliver - Adam and the Ants
Axel F - Harold Faltermeyer
Invisible Touch - Genesis
Touch - Noiseworks
Body and Soul - Jenny Morris
Out of mind, out of sight - The Models
All Night - Bit by Bats

Bit by Bats got thrown in at the end as they have an 80's sound, a band from Melbourne who have released an album and recently split.
